Mods can significantly enhance your gameplay experience by adding new features, improving existing ones, or even introducing entirely new gameplay mechanics. This guide aims to walk you through the correct process of installing mods, ensuring you can enjoy all that the modding community has to offer without any hitches.

Preparing for Mod Installation

  • Downloading Necessary Tools: First, download the Unreal Engine Scripting System (RE-UE4SS) required for modding Palworld.
  • Unzipping and Preparing Files: Once downloaded, unzip the files to a designated folder. This will be your working directory for mod installations.
  • Modifying the RE-UE4SS Settings File: Open the UE4SS-settings.ini file within the unzipped folder. Use a text editor like Notepad++. Find the line bUseUObjectArrayCache and change its value from true to false. Save your changes.
  • Transferring RE-UE4SS Files: Copy all files from the RE-UE4SS directory to the Palworld > Binaries > Win64 directory in your game installation folder.

You can read more about the process of downloading and installing RE-UE4SS in Palworld in our special instruction.

Installing Mods

  • Downloading Mods: You can download any mod you like from our Palworld mod directory. Ensure you read each mod’s description carefully, as some may require additional steps or tools for installation.
  • Placing Mod Files: Mods come in various forms, but most will either be .pak files or folders containing scripts and assets.
    • For .pak mods, place them in the Mods folder you create within Palworld > Content > Paks.
    • For mods contained in folders, these should go into Palworld > Binaries > Win64 > Mods.
  • Updating the Configuration File: Locate the mods.txt file within the Binaries > Win64 directory. Add the names of the mods you’ve installed, each followed by a colon and the number 1, to activate them. Save your changes.

Verifying and Activating Mods in Game

  • Checking Mod Installation: Launch Palworld and load a saved game to ensure the mods are working correctly. You should notice changes based on the mods you’ve installed, whether that’s new gameplay mechanics, enhanced visuals, or additional content.
  • Managing Installed Mods: If you wish to deactivate any mods, simply return to the mods.txt file and change the 1 to a 0 next to the mod’s name, or remove the mod files from their respective directories.

Troubleshooting

  • Solving Common Issues: If you encounter any issues with your mods, such as crashes or performance drops, try removing the mods one by one to identify the culprit. Ensure all mods are compatible with your version of Palworld.
  • Restoring Original Game Files: In case of major issues, you can restore the original game files through Steam by selecting Palworld in your library, right-clicking, choosing “Properties,” navigating to the “Local Files” tab, and clicking “Verify integrity of game files.”

Modding can profoundly impact your Palworld experience, offering endless possibilities for customization and new challenges. By following this guide, you can safely explore the vast world of mods. Always approach modding with caution, as incorrect installation can lead to game instability or loss of saved data. Happy modding!
